Departments
Grinding - Full line of grinding capability including; (4) Blanchard Grinders, (3) External OD Grinders, (2) Internal ID Grinders, (7) Surface Grinders, and (1) End Grinder.
Boring Mills - Large parts capacity,(6) Horizontal Boring Mills.
Lathes-Engine - (7) Horizontal Lathes, ranging from 40" swing with 312" between centers to 14" swing with 40" between centers, and (2) Vertical Turning Lathes.
Tool Making - (4) Vertical Milling Machines, (2) Horizontal Milling Machines.
Blanchard Grinders - Are used primarily for flat plate grinding. Checker Machine has the largest Blanchard grinding department in the Midwest. Checker Machine has (4) Blanchards ranging in size from the smallest one, a machine with a 42" diameter chuck, a 48" swing and a 18" vertical capability, to the largest, with a 120" chuck, a 144" swing and 48" vertical capacity to meet your grinding needs.
Surface Grinders - are used to grind surfaces to extremely tight tolerances and finishes.
The surfaces can be either flat or formed.
Grinding is often the next step after Blanchard grinding.Checker Machine has 7 surface grinders
starting with a 10" x 20" travel, going all the way up to a Mattison automatic surface grinder with a 120" long travel x 30" vertical travel x 40"
transverse travel.
External Grinders - are sometimes referred to as cylindrical grinders and are used to grind shafts and roll to extremely close tolerances. Checker Machine has 3 of these grinders. The largest one handles shafts up to 25" in diameter and 174" long. The smallest one can handle shafts with up to a 6" diameter and 18" in length.
Universal Grinders - are many times referred to as OD/ID grinders. These machines can be vertical or horizontal in nature and are used to grind a precise finish on either the outside of a shaft or tube, or, the inside of a tube or ring. Checker Machine has 2 machines that are capable of handling up to 60" diameter parts.
Horizontal Lathes - metal working lathes of all sizes can be found in Checker Machines lathe department.
With 7 horizontal lathes to choose from, one is certain to fit your requirements.
The smallest lathe will accommodate 14" diameter x 40" long parts. The largest one will handle 40" diameter x 312"long parts.
Horizontal CNC Lathe - Checker Machine has a small CNC turning center to do small to medium size production runs of small parts.
Vertical Turning Lathe - many times parts that are very large in diameter and relatively short in length are easier machined in a vertical lathe rather than a horizontal lathe. Checker Machine has 2 vertical lathes that allow parts up to 120" in diameter to be turned.
Horizontal Boring Mills - used for boring and milling large parts that may require special fixtures to hold the part
in place. Checker Machine has 6 boring mills in sizes ranging from an XYW coordinate size of
55"x 59"x 44" on the small end to an XYW coordinate size of 295"x 96"x 38" on the large end.
Horizontal Machining Center - NC and CNC machining centers are part of Checker Machine's capabilities for medium sized parts. (1) Lucas NC machining center and one Summit CNC with rotary table provide
us with excellent capacity.
Vertical Machining Center - Checker Machine has one OKK MCV 1060, one Toshiba VMC-85, and three Kuraki KV series CNC
controlled machining centers of varying size which give us excellent capacity
for small to mid size production runs of parts which require CNC precision.
Vertical Milling Machines - small vertical mills and Bridgeport mills and are used extensively in the area of tool making. Checker Machine has 4 of these mills which allows for efficient setup and production of multiple step tool making operations.
Horizontal Milling Machines - when the milling job is heavier than what a Bridgeport can handle and not big enough for a horizontal boring mill, a horizontal milling machine fits the requirement. Checker Machine has 2 such machines to supplement the tool making department.
Quality Control Department
Co-ordinate Measuring - is a critical part of Checker Machine’s quality control department. Our QC department comes complete with a Numerex
Co-ordinate measuring machine, a Gaugemaster Optical Comparator, granite surface plate and a
host of other measuring equipment too numerous to mention individually. All of which ensure
that our customers’ parts are made to exact print specifications.
